What's new in 2.0
If you have been using ClipX since before 2.0, it will still feel very familiar. Here is a closer look at some of the things we've improved.
At home on modern Windows.
Let's be honest, the 2008-era ClipX UI looked a little dated. ClipX now uses modern Windows theming throughout, Light and dark themes keep it in step with your desktop, while Windows 11 brings optionally transparent popup menus that feel native to the operating system. Prefer the old look? Classic Win32 styling is still available.
More control over what ClipX remembers.
The world has changed since ClipX first launched, so ClipX 2.0 adds safeguards for the privacy and security risks people face today. It can detect sensitive content such as passwords, credit card numbers or API keys that should not be recorded, keep your history in memory instead of on disk for extra protection, and automatically purge old entries or clear everything when your computer locks or restarts.
The privacy page has the full picture of what ClipX does, and doesn't do, with your data.
Every format built in. Everything else optional.
ClipX now supports every clipboard format out of the box. Formatted text, images, files, even application-specific formats are all recorded, and clips are restored exactly as you copied them, formatting included (or Shift+Enter/Shift+Click on the menu to paste as plain text).
That said, we wanted to keep the core of ClipX as lean as ever while adding even more ways to use it, so new capabilities continue to live in optional plugins:
More Formats adds previews for HTML, RTF, and compressed images, plus alpha transparency support for image and photo editors. Sharing securely shares clipboards across machines without ever sending data to the cloud. MCP lets AI assistants work with your clipboard history through a local-only MCP server. Snip captures regions, windows, or freeform selections with a magnifier and annotations.
You can install only the extras you want from the new plugin browser.
